The first stop on my summer travels was Memphis, Tennessee. This was my second time visiting Memphis. Last year I had visited, and my brother was starting his first year of residency, settling into a new place and single. It’s funny how quickly things can change within a year. Here I was back in Memphis after one year, and this time to witness and be part of my brother’s wedding. He met her last fall at the hospital and now they were getting married less than a year after starting dating.

Yes it happened all so quickly, yet it worked. Even in the short time that I’ve seen them together, I could see how they humbly seek after God together. I was so blessed by the entire time, through the wedding ceremony, and spending time with all of the family and friends gathered. The worship time during the wedding was so powerful. As we were singing a song, One Thirst, I was so moved. I was overwhelmed by God’s love and His presence there. I know that there are greater things in store for the both of them as a married couple!

I know how at times when their siblings get married you can feel like you are “loosing” them to another person, but I’ve already witnessed how I’m gaining so much from the two of them together. They are truly a beautiful couple on the inside and outside. Thank you for your continued love and support.

lego meets art

Growing up, I remember our house full of legos. There was a big plastic container of legos that my brothers would play with for hours, constructing different things and letting their imaginations go. I remember stepping on random lego pieces on the floor and the yellow helmut head the lego figures had. I never imagined that legos could be constructed into huge lifelike sculptures like the ones I saw on Friday.

I had a chance to visit the Art Science Museum by the Marina Bay Sands hotel for the first time. They had two special exhibits, one was a mummies exhibit and the other was an exhibit by Nathan Sawaya called the Art of the Brick. I really enjoyed seeing how Nathan Sawaya used lego blocks for his art. I was really blown away by his creativity and talent.There was this one quote on the wall from him, where he realized that he had more fun sitting on a floor building sculptures than sitting in a boardroom negotiating contracts as a lawyer. I’m glad he chose to pursue what he was passionate about!Unfortunately, today is the last day of his exhibit here in Singapore.

When I first met Melody, we were both lost at Yongsan base, trying to find the Jubilee picnic and I had not idea that our lives would become so interconnected through my time in Korea, after this chance meeting. A few months later, I met Melody again at a Jerusalem Ministry prayer meeting. As our friendship grew, I found out that she was a certified teacher and told her to apply to my school. She of course got the job, and I quickly found out how enthusiastic and talented she was as a teacher.

The next few years, we got to work together, hang out a lot as neighbors, and serve together. We went to the orphanage together on Monday nights and even went to Nepal on a missions trip to train teachers there. Now, we have our teaching blog, two apples a day and are in the midst of starting a non profit organization with two other amazing friends, Dyanne and Tammi.

Cheers to a friendship that continues to grow and challenge one another! Cheers to a fabulous blogging partner! Cheers to celebrating your beautiful life!

bbq @ east coast park

It was a perfect night for a bbq with good friends at East Coast Park. It was nice hanging out there at night with the view of the ocean. This definitely needs to happen more often!

carpenter & cook: bakery meets vintage

After hearing about this cafe from lady iron chef’s blog, I was so excited to check out Carpenter & Cook here in Singapore. I loved all the mismatched vintage furniture including chairs with crosses carved out on the back because they must have been from a church. Our table had this antique foot pedal thing on the bottom because it must have been a sewing table. All around the cafe we saw vintage pieces like type writers, scales, mirrors, clocks and more that are on sale and add to the decor. The inside of the cafe was a bit smaller than I expected. It probably would not be a good place to go if you have a really big group of people.

All the food is baked at the cafe. They had a good variety of baked goods from quiches, breads, passion fruit tartes, croissants, scones, muffins and more. My blueberry crumb muffin was definitely the best muffin I’ve had in Singapore so far. The chocolate caramel sea salt tart was my FAVORITE! I loved the sweet and savory taste of it. It melted in my mouth. The passion fruit tart had a unique and sweet taste to it. They also sold a variety of homemade jams and biscuits as well. I would definitely come back here again!

Running Through MacRitchie Reservoir

Another thing on my to do list in Singapore was to go on the tree top walk at MacRitchie Reservoir Park. This past Sunday, I finally made the trip, which I realized was not too far from my apartment. I was reminded that I live in one of the most amazing places in the world. The fact that I have access to amazing nature reserves less than 30 minutes from my apartment is pretty unbelievable. On the trail I did see some monkeys and luckily no snakes. I was really blown away by the beauty and peace here. I felt like I stepped into the jungle and most of the time on the trails I was the only person.

It was my first time there and I knew there was a 10km loop that I could make around the whole reservoir. After about 6 km, I finally reached the tree top walk! However, getting back to the starting point was not an easy task. I couldn’t really leave the trail anywhere on the path. I had to walk to certain exit points. I didn’t want to risk going on a trail that led me somewhere else from the starting point. I didn’t know if there would be a bus or taxis that would be easily accessible, so I decided to go all the way back to my starting point and complete the loop. However, I got a bit lost on my way. A few hours later I made it back and according to my nike run app, I ran and walked a total of 15.5 km!! Next time, I’m going to figure out how to get on the right trail…

I’m also participating in a race tomorrow, which will cross off #6 on my list. Being the goal-centered person that I am, I’m currently working on coming up with a list of cafes/dessert places to check out in Singapore. Let me know if you have any good suggestions or just want to join me for good desserts.

Jurong Bird Park

On Saturday, I had a chance to visit the Jurong bird park here in Singapore for the first time! A special thanks to my Petrina who got us free tickets! I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but I was pretty impressed. It was pretty big and had a lot of exhibits. Unfortunately, it rained and we had to cut our visit a bit short, but we still got to see a handful of exhibits and one of the shows. I would definitely have to say that the penguins were my favorite! Next on my list, is to go to the Singapore zoo and the newly open River Safari to see the pandas!!!

Vietnam Park 4: Inside Hanoi

Here is my final post of photos from my trip to Vietnam. Hanoi was such a fun and unique city to visit. I loved all the food, culture and colors. One of the nights we were there, we randomly saw a parade happening. It was great seeing all the people dressed in their traditional clothing. We also got to see the outside of the Ho Chi Minh Museum. The museum was unfortunately closed on that day.
